Santos E. Mendez was born in La Habana, Cuba. He arrived in Miami in August of 1962 and has lived here all his life. At a very early age, he discovered he was given a gift, a gift with forms and colors which finally exploded on a canvas.
The lively effects of his paintings are represented by his depiction of the magnetism of exotic people and tropical places. Being an islander himself, he embraces palm trees on land and turquoise waters from the ocean. His still lives highly represent this mood, a powerful combination of jewel tones displaying vibrancy as well as harmony.
Santos has been the recepient of many awards such as the Grand Prize winner for Best in Show at the Brickell Key Master Association Annual Art Festival. Also, Second Place in Show at Carnival Miami, presented by The Kiwanis of Little Havana and had been recognized at the Gasparilla Art Festival in Tampa, Florida. He proudly appears in Avancemos 2nd Edition by Mc Dougal Littell, a book for students distributed throught High Schools in the United States and Canada.+
I am an artist and have lived in Miami for many years. I’ll have to say that my artwork is very contemporary-impressionistic kind of style. Very colorful but still romantic and powerful. I have had exhibitions in many places and have won grand prizes and second in show. Also I appear in a well know High School text book after being selected among very well known local artists.
