Most of my work starts as semi-poetic thought., but some as geometric visions. It is a link between abstract and representational art. I reduce the resolution of my own or borrowed photos to the point where they look somewhat abstract. The whole process is heavily automated, digital and can produce portfolios of compatible images. Many artists appropriate prior art; my reason for doing is to make the images as abstract as I want and re-tell their stories in my own brush strokes. My prints can be used to suggest a large museum’s collection, a current in art or other groups of works, for different curatorial purposes, or simply for their abstract, intrinsic beauty. I answer the ubiquitous question: ” what does this abstract piece represent?” with a more or less photo-realistic thumbnail.
At low resolution, photographs may look somewhat like the photographed subject, but logic and the lack of fine detail is proof that photographs, or paintings, sculptures… are not what they represent. A photo of a nude is not flesh; a photo of a painting is not paint on canvas…At low resolution, photography approaches Brâncusi’s concept of essence. Think essence of flight for “Bird in Space”, “Măiastra” and others! I’m not saying that poor photography skill and bad cameras capture the essence of what is, but I’m proposing that in the hands of a good artist, that is a possibility. If you are entertained by my suggestions, you are in the presence of art; If you return to my images and they’re still entertaining you, that’s good art : )
